10 Best Action Set-Pieces In Star Trek

If there's one thing that the TNG movies did, it was give Patrick Stewart the chance to be an action movie star.

What better opportunity than to strap Stewart, Michael Dorn (occasionally replaced by a very poorly jointed dummy) and Brent Spiner into a dune buggy?

Well, none of course. Collecting parts of Data's disassembled brother is all well and good but how can that compare to watching a rare ground vehicle chase through the desert... ?

Nemesis was many things yet this is one sequence that sticks on fans minds. The locals don't take too kindly to the arrival of a Starfleet shuttle and Starfleet's exit from the planet is hastily completed actioned. There's a nice, but maybe overly unnecessary jump into the Argo craft and Data piloting the ship by remote as the sands around the buggy explode in phaser fire.

This is one of only three land-based chase sequences in the whole of the franchise; young Kirk versus bike cop and Kirk's biking in Beyond being the only two others that spring to mind. The Argo wouldn't be forgotten however, turning up both on the USS Cerritos schematic in Lower Decks and in the field.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
