10 Best Battlestar Galactica Moments

5. Gaeta's Excecution

Lieutenant Felix Gaeta was one of the best supporting characters of Battlestar Galactica. His unwavering loyalty to Commander Adama and his endless war against the destruction of the human race was admired by his fellow shipmates and the fans.

But after the New Caprica storyline, many characters underwent deep changes to the core of who they were in the show, not least of which was Lieutenant Gaeta, who was viewed by many aboard the Galactica as a traitor to humanity despite being a double agent for the resistance.

Nonetheless, Lieutenant Gaeta grew further and further away from the people and home he once regarded with pride, and following a harrowing ordeal that cost the poor lieutenant his leg, Gaeta began to grow insane.

This spiral for a loyal soldier came to its dark end when he became outraged over the Human-Cylon alliance that was forming near the end of the show, a decision that spirals into a fleet-wide mutiny. The mutiny aboard the Galactica, while extremely bloody, was thankfully stopped quickly and the ringleaders were placed on trial. Just before his death, Gaeta realizes the phantom limb pain he had been suffering for so long finally stopped just as he was shot.

Overall, the fleetwide coup d'état is a major moment in Battlestar Galactica's run, but Gaeta's death, not as a hero for humanity but instead as one of its greatest criminals, is truly heartbreaking and fascinating to watch.
