10 Best Brooklyn Nine-Nine Cold Opens

3. Diane Wiest-Infection

You couldn't ask for a truer friend or a more dedicated detective than Charles Boyle. He has been loyal to Jake for years, having his back in almost every situation. But it can be easy to forget how great he actually is at his job, clearing a large number of cases on a regular basis.

Boyle's biggest flaw is the fact that he seems largely unaware of the endless parade of double entendres that pour from his mouth. He's unbelievably inappropriate without realizing it. Even worse are the horrifying jokes he intentionally makes way too often for his friends.

Charles is mildly obsessed with the actress Dianne Wiest. Seeing each other for the first time after the weekend, Jake politely asked Boyle what he did. Charles responded by saying he watched Bullets Over Broadway and came down with a Dianne Wiest-Infection, a play on the term "yeast infection."

Then, after an uncomfortably long pause, he tried to explain the joke. That pause combined with the looks on Charles and Jake's respective faces make this one of the most brilliantly funny moments in the series.
