There's no doubt that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is lightyears ahead of the DC Extended Universe, but in terms of the small screen, DC has established itself as the stronger franchise. For now at least.

Four years before the debut of Arrow, and the subsequent Arrowverse, the CW were looking at bringing to life a show surrounding Dick Grayson and his family in the days before he became Batman's sidekick. The idea took a lot of inspiration from Smallville, as DC wanted to tell a similar prequel story for the Boy Wonder.

The Graysons even brought on board two Smallville executive producers in Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, along with Supernatural executive producers Peter Johnson and McG, to bring the story of the travelling acrobats to life, but the show never got as far as a pilot, let alone a full series order.

Though we'll never know how good this portrayal of Dick Grayson would have been, with ten years between this and Chris O'Donnell's portrayal of the character in Batman and Robin, there wouldn't have been the biggest shoes to fill. Instead, we've had to wait until Titans in 2018 for a genuinely strong portrayal of the character.
