Monica is suffering after being fired from her chef job and looks to her parents to borrow money. Whilst visiting, her parents leave her a box of her old belongings. Inside, Monica finds a video from her and Rachel's high school prom. They discover that Ross was ready to swoop in to be the saviour that night all along.

Chandler and Joey are going through a difficult time in their friendship. Joey has bought Chandler a large gold bracelet as a thank you for his help with his acting career. Chandler rants to Phoebe about how much he hates the bracelet, and is overheard by Joey. Then, Bing ends up losing the gift when it falls off his wrist.

This second flashback episode in the ranking is the first of its kind in the show. We get to see just how long Ross has been in love with Rachel and how even as a teenager she was able to break his heart without even realising it. It's fun to see the gang so young, as well as the fabulous retro fashion.

Joey and Chandler's falling out is also well written in this episode. We've all been on the receiving end of a present that just isn't to our taste, so we can relate to Chandler's problem. He does a good job of making it up to Joey in the end.
