10 Best Horror TV Shows Of 2024
5. Uzumaki
The long-awaited animated adaptation of Junji Ito's legendary horror manga series Uzumaki is certainly a peculiar beast, alright.
Though the first episode was near-universally acclaimed by critics and fans, the three remaining episodes saw the animation quality take a notable dip, as many fans pointed out on social media.
Creative director Jason DeMarco later remarked that behind-the-scenes production issues were to blame, but rather than scrap the series entirely, they decided to press on and release Uzumaki in a compromised form to honour the work done by those working on the project. And even though Uzimaki's animation is wildly inconsistent throughout the four episodes, it's still ultimately worth watching, given the faithfulness with which Ito's stories have generally been adapted.
The unnerving weirdness of Ito's tales are unlike any mainstream horror content out there, and if you're new to his work, this anime isn't a bad place to start, even if it never fully lives up to the promise of that brilliant first episode.
