10 Best It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Episodes
5. A Very Sunny Christmas
What's better than one episode of Always Sunny? Two episodes! This one comes as a great way of challenging the classic sitcom holiday special. The thing that makes the show unique is its way of taking something familiar and subverting it. This special is one of the best examples of that.
The writers of this episode (Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney) go to the limits of controversy here, with subplots including sex workers, home break-ins, and the most violent acts ever committed to Santa on screen. The episode does not, however, only give us some brutal moments. It also helps develop the gang, specifically Charlie and Mac, as the episode delves into how Charlie began his substance abuse and lets us see what an average Christmas was like for Mac under his criminal father, Luther.
There are plot twists and revelations, and it encapsulates everything you would expect from a holiday special with the gang. It ranks so highly because it is 40-minutes of consistently entertaining and shocking content.
