The Doctor and the TARDIS crew are visiting Geneva, on the infamous night when Mary Shelley is going to be inspired to write Frankenstein. However, it quickly becomes clear that history has gone wrong, as Percy Shelley is missing. Things become stranger when they discover a skeletal hand scuttling around, and the house itself seems to trap them inside. But that is only the beginning of the danger…

WHY WATCH?

This episode is brilliantly lit, with the villa appearing to illuminated only by candles and lightning flashes from the storm outside - giving a real ghostly feel to the place. Meanwhile the Lone Cyberman, only half finished and exposing grey flesh, is a great new take on the mechanical villain. Imposing and corpse like, it reminds us that behind the silver casings are in fact human beings turned monstrous by science, just like Frankenstein’s monster himself.
