4. Gallifrey Falls No More

One of the biggest narrative events of the 50th anniversary year was no doubt the return of Gallifrey which, contrary to popular belief, was in fact saved during the Time War and currently resides inside in a time-locked pocket universe. Who knew!? This universe is presented as a painting, aptly titled Gallifrey Falls No More, which is on display at the National Gallery under the watchful eyes of the aforementioned Curator. See how everything is coming together? It was a huge turning point for the Doctor who had previously accepted that he was solely responsible for the destruction of his beloved home planet. As it turns out, though, all 13 of his incarnations came together to save the Time Lords in an iconic scene from The Day of the Doctor which will be remembered as one of the defining moments from the show's golden festivities. After 50 years of adventure, the story honoured the Doctor's past whilst setting his journey off on a whole new direction as our hero was presented with a personal mission to find home sweet home. As of November 2014 and the end of Series 8, he's no closer to getting there (no thanks to Missy), but we'll be right by his side when he does...
