10 Best New TV Shows Nobody Is Watching
5. Slip
Perhaps the wildest high concept of 2023, Slip finds itself tucked away on the Roku network. In this instance, though, that may be a good thing, as a show with as grabby but undeniably crazy a premise would have a hard time getting over without interference on a major network.
It should be noted that this is, in essence, a multiverse show. If you’re feeling multiversed out, that’s understandable, but Slip’s USP is a good 'un. Creator, writer, and director Zoe Lister-Jones stars as Mae, a married woman whose tedious life is sinking her into a depression. One night, she meets a man. A fling results in her first orgasm in forever, which sends her spiralling into another dimension wherein the one night stand becomes her husband.
The dimension-hopping premise (realities switching upon climax) is the hook for a show that boasts big laughs, genuinely new ideas, and an admirably frank take on regret, squandered opportunities, and reappraising your life.
Best of all is the central performance from Lister-Jones. Having sparkled before in supporting roles on the likes of New Girl, she takes the chance at a starring gig and runs with it. Sexy, funny stuff, even for those of us who never want to hear about another alternate dimension as long as we live.
