7. Cristin Milioti - Tracy McConnell
It took an unfathomably long time, but at the very end of season eight fans finally got a glimpse of The Mother, Tracy McConnell. It had been a long time coming, so long that it ran the risk of feeling forced or underwhelming. But with the talented Cristin Milioti behind the wheel, there were no issues. And whilst season nine is far from perfect, Tracy is the best thing in it, bringing light to every scene she gets.
Tracy is goofy, intelligent, independent, and lovably pretentious in the same way as her future husband, Ted. Portrayed as the most moral and sweetest character in the show, Milioti's crowning achievement comes in the season nine masterpiece, How Your Mother Met Me, where Tracy finally gets centre stage and has her story told.
She could have been one-note, anti-climatic or wooden, but she was none of those things, and was a welcome addition to the cast. We only wish we'd had more time with her.
