10 Best Sci-Fi TV Shows Of 2020
3. Alice In Borderland
Adapting popular manga to the live-action screen has not always proven to be a recipe for success, as often the source material is more appropriate to animated form. However, don't let that deter you away from the fantastic Alice in Borderland, as the Netflix original series is a fascinating watch that ticks all the boxes of manga/anime fans and general audiences.
The story tells of a group of delinquents who become suddenly transported into an almost post-apocalyptic world. In this new setting, they must survive by playing a selection of sadistic games, with each one allowing them to live for the number of days equal to what they score.
Alice in Borderland gives off this science-fiction Saw energy, as the challenges are all twisted - and bloody - versions of classic childhood games, which makes the series incredibly intense. Additionally, the leading performances are all very likeable, and as such the tension is palpable when they enter a game.
Some viewers may struggle with the subtitles, but there is a dub on offer to make viewing easier if need be. But if you are curious, then do not be deterred by having to read, as a tonne of the story comes from the physical action of the characters.
It's an unconventional, yet utterly gripping sci-fi show that builds its more straightforward concept up to a grand arch and deserves a lot of praise.
