10 Best Supernatural Episodes
2. No Rest For The Wicked
Speaking of Dean's impending death, the episode where the Hellhounds do finally return to collect their debt is also one of Supernatural's finest hours of television. With his time all but run out (to the point where reality is beginning to blur with Hell itself), Dean is dragged by Sam on a last-resort mission to confront the demon Lilith and break him out of his deal.
Things go royally haywire though, and the two fail, with Sam having to watch his brother brutally get torn to shreds by hellhounds. That scene alone would have made it worthy of a place on this list, but it's the brothers' camaraderie, even in the face of death, that makes each second so affecting.
That ethos is summed up brilliantly during a brief interlude; with only hours left on the planet, the two share a moment singing along to Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive, before the lyrics remind them a little too much of the current situation.
The finale is as small scale and personal as Supernatural gets, and proves that Heaven and Hell don't always need to be hanging in the balance to deliver an ambitious, powerful episode.
