10 Biggest Missed Opportunities in Star Trek: Section 31

8. Melle, We Hardly Knew Ye

Section 31 introduced characters who didn't get near enough screen time. While a film can offer up someone who gets entirely too much screen time, that cannot be said of Humberly González's Melle.

Deltans have barely appeared since their introduction in 1979. Georgiou summarises them when she calls Melle 'a walking honeypot.'

Deltans are irresistible to most alien species. Having a member of the team who can distract almost any guard, technician, or assailant using nothing but their innate skills is a gift. Why, then, does Section 31 bump theirs off within moments?

Though given almost nothing to do, González imbues Melle with enough mystique and charm to make us want to see more. She's a skilled fighter, has close ties with Quasi (we are told), and has the confidence of one who has done this too many times to count. The anger on Melle's face as San vaporizes her is shared by the audience.

There was an opportunity to truly explore Deltans in this film. Instead, they opted for another quick death, mirroring Ilia's, only without a returning Probe to ease our suffering.
