Bundled into the ending of Rest and Ricklaxation came a surprise jab at the hit HBO show. As the credits came an end, a title card flashes up similar to an in-memoriam tribute, reading "The Writing on Game of Thrones [2011 - 2016].

Viewers assumed that the bumper was part of the episode, with Rick and Morty being known for utilising end credit scenes. Yet the slam came as a surprise to the show's creators.

After fans questioned the jab, both Harmon and Roiland were forced to come out with statements pointing the blame squarely at Adult Swim.

Having featured many Game of Thrones references within Rick and Morty, it comes as no surprise that the co-creators are fans of the show. They even came out in support of season eight's controversial ending in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Harmon had already spoken of his love of the show, but commented on his view as a showrunner, stating, “I was amazed at the amount they were able to accomplish — especially given the meta-reality of having run out of books to adapt".
