10 Brand New TV Shows Coming To Netflix In 2022
7. Resident Evil
After last year’s Resident Evil animated series, Netflix is now producing a live-action version set in the year 2036, nearly three decades after the discovery of the T-virus, which had claimed over six billion victims by that point. Our protagonist is a woman in her 30s named Jade Wesker, who is one of only 15 million uninfected people, trying to navigate this post-apocalyptic nightmare.
There is also a secondary plotline, told via flashbacks, that tells the story of 14-year-old Jade and her twin sister Billie as they move to New Raccoon City with their father, who is hiding some dark and dangerous secrets.
Previous Resident Evil adaptations have largely been hit-or-miss in quality, but they have always managed to draw in big audiences, and it will probably be no different with the latest one. The premise looks interesting on paper, as it promises to tell expand the lore and offer a new angle on the story, but it remains to be seen how well-executed it will be.
Andrew Dabb is set to be the showrunner, with Ella Balinska cast in the leading role. The first season will be available for Netflix's American audience on 14 July.
