10 Celebrity Guests Who Should've Stayed In South Park
3. R. Kelly
Episode(s) appeared in: Trapped in the Closet (Season 9, Episode 12)
After Stan was hailed as the second coming of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, his words carried weight with the celebrity members of the church/cult/possible practical joke. When Stan revealed he didn’t care for Tom Cruise as an actor, the Mission Impossible star locked himself inside Stan’s bedroom closet. R. Kelly was drafted in to persuade Cruise to come out. He sang his lines and was brandishing a gun in a parody of his rap-opera Trapped in the Closet. R. Kelly quickly found himself in the closet too.
When he was depicted in the 2005-episode, R. Kelly was spared much mockery, even though at the time he had been indicted on child pornography charges. Also, an alleged video of him urinating on a girl had surfaced. Since R. Kelly’s appearance in South Park his life has taken an even darker turn. R. Kelly is currently incarcerated for a litany of sex crimes, exposed in depth by the docu-series Surviving R. Kelly.
Trey and Matt are notable for their dark humour and R. Kelly deserves a skewering. Plus, the in-world R. Kelly communicates in song form, whilst Matt and Trey have proven themselves as talented musical writers, with The Book of Mormon being a glaring example.
