10 Characters From 24 You Totally Didn't Appreciate The First Time

3. Morris O'Brian

Utilised as a largely peripheral member of the show spanning seasons 5 to 8 - aside from a thicker role during his kidnapping by A.Fayed - Morris burst onto 24 a sharp-witted, sarcastic Brit with phenomenal computer skills. His dry humour and snarky remarks deliberately positioned him as a character who would be not so easily likeable.

Afforded a gradual increase in screen time throughout the seasons, fans were treated to deeper backstories from his past, allowing the character to develop a richer, more colourful and understandable character. It is during these scenes that audiences can greater appreciate the root of his idiosyncrasies, and the reasons as to why he acts the he chooses to; distant, stand-off in nature, an inability to open up to others, a tribalistic mentally.

Fans undervalue Morris given that they have been conditioned to struggle with connecting to him, or investing in him as a character. This is unfair. Upon a re-watching of the series, with a holistic view, the pieces of Morris's story can be collated to form an enthralling and engaging narrative in their own right.

From his arrogance, to his shady and relatively unexplored past with Chloe, many avenues of his story can be used for discussion points. You need look no further than the stellar writing which highlighted a lack of support given to those suffering from PTSD, and the effect that can have if you are looking for a starting point.
