10 Classic TV Series You Didn't Know Were Spinoffs

9. Family Feud (1976-present) Family Feud Richard Dawson'Spun off from: Match Game

Family Feud is a game show wherein two families compete for cash and prizes by trying to guess answers to survey questions posed to 100 people. It has been aired on daytime television and in syndication since 1976. It has been cancelled and re-launched numerous times and boasts no fewer than six hosts in its run.

Family Feud sprung out of a popular 1970s game show called Match Game, where contestants had to match answers to questions with members of a celebrity panel. Host Gene Rayburn did his best to corral the celebrity panel whose core members included Charles Nelson Reilly, Betty White and Richard Dawson. A week of programs were taped in a single day, and the celebrities would start imbibing at lunch time. The taped shows were aired daily, and, by Friday, it was obvious to many viewers that several members of the panel were nicely relaxed and heavily €œlubricated.€ Behind the scenes, however, something of a rivalry emerged between Rayburn and Dawson. As host, Rayburn was star of the show. But Dawson became immensely popular and soon became the celebrity focus of every show on which he appeared. The solution was simple: give Dawson his own show. Thirty non-consecutive seasons later, it€™s still going.
