10 Crazy Doctor Who Theories Fans Actually Believed
7. Graham Is The Doctor
When it comes to introducing new Doctors, Series 12 well and truly tore up the rulebook.
But even before The Timeless Children confirmed the existence of pre-Hartnell Doctors, fans were starting to wonder whether they’d already encountered one – all because of a line fluff from Bradley Walsh in Ascension of the Cybermen, where he’d appeared to introduce himself as “the Doctor”.
Had this theory come to pass, it would've revealed that Graham, like Ruth, was a pre-Hartnell Doctor living under a false identity, with Ryan as his companion (neatly mirroring the grandparent/grandchild setup of the First Doctor and Susan). But unsurprisingly, this utterly bonkers theory amounted to nothing in the end.
Good job too. After all, if Graham really had turned out to be the Doctor, it would've made the Companion Support Group pretty darn awkward!
Or maybe that makes the theory more credible, not less. Maybe Graham isn’t a past Doctor, but a future one – like the Curator – taking the opportunity to reconnect with his past companions.
