10 Doctor Who Moments The Actors Hated
7. Tom Baker Vs. Four's Regeneration
Few regenerations are as famous as the demise of the Fourth Doctor.
After falling from a great height, the longest-serving Doctor of all time says goodbye to companions new and old, before merging with an ethereal being called The Watcher and transforming into his new form.
In an era where every single regeneration was radically different, this is one of the most unique and emotional goodbyes of any Doctor, but Tom Baker himself wasn't entirely pleased with how it all went down.
Producer John Nathan-Turner and director Peter Grimwade originally wanted the Doctor to scream out as he fell from the radio telescope, which prompted them to butt heads with Baker, who felt that this wasn't something the Doctor would do – and eventually, he won the argument.
Elsewhere, Baker was displeased that the final thing people saw of the Fourth Doctor was of him lying down flat on the ground, waiting for and accepting his death – hardly the most heroic of exits.
It's a far cry from the explosive and dramatic regenerations of the modern series, but even if Baker wasn't a fan of how the book was closed, it hasn't stopped his Doctor from remaining one of the most popular of all time, even all these years later.
