10 Doctor Who Moments The Actors Hated
6. Karen Gillan Vs. Her OWN Acting
Despite the fact that she's gone on to become a Hollywood megastar with roles in the MCU and Jumanji, Karen Gillan will always be Amy Pond. That's just how it's going to work.
While Amy grew into a complex, well-rounded character across her two-and-a-half series aboard the TARDIS, Gillan has a bit of a bone to pick with some of her earliest appearances.
It's easy to forget that she was only in her early 20s when she was cast, and was only a handful of years into her acting career. Reflecting on that time period in a 2019 interview, Gillan revealed that she isn't completely happy with how some of her performances turned out, saying that, "I'd go back to the first half of the first series that I did and just redo that acting. I know a lot more about acting now."
They say we're our own worst critics, but blimey, bit harsh!
Like a lot of television, Gillan's first series was filmed out of order, with episodes four and five – The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone – actually being the first episodes shot. And though it probably is fair to say that some of her early work was a little rough, Amy was a brilliant character right from the off, and Gillan would deliver some knockout performances during her tenure – including a stunning double role in Series 6's The Girl Who Waited.
And besides, Doctor Who has seen much worse acting across its long history, so she shouldn't feel too bad.
