10 Failed Comic Book TV Projects That Would Be Awesome Now

Adapting comic book properties for TV is always problematic. Stick too close to the source material and you risk alienating audiences, but if you stray too far, hardcore fans will vocally express their outrage... which explains why the Birds Of Prey adaptation received such a poor response from audiences after just thirteen episodes.

In the comics, Birds Of Prey unites fan favourites such as Oracle, Black Canary and the Huntress into one cohesive crime fighting team based in Gotham City. The TV adaptation followed this simple premise, but made each of the central characters almost unrecognisable to fans of the comics. Instead of her signature sonic cry, Black Canary possessed psychic powers and the Huntress became the feline powered offspring of Batman and Catwoman...

The street level crime-fighting showcased in Birds of Prey had huge potential, something which Arrow capitalised on just a few years later, even using the Huntress and Black Canary once again. The difference though is that Arrow's interpretation of these characters was far more faithful to the comics, improving on Birds Of Prey in almost every way.

The DC universe created by CW has already created two spin-offs in the form of The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow, so it's not much of a stretch to imagine the company developing a new Birds Of Prey show using the same characters they've already featured. With Huntress set up ready to go, the potential for more Canary (in some shape or form), all the show would need now is a new tech expert like Oracle, a role which Felicity is already filling quite nicely on Arrow (even if they couldn't use the name). Unless, of course, the DCEU gets there first.

Which one of these TV shows would you like to see back on TV? Can you think of any more failed comic book projects that stand a chance in today's market? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
