10 Female Actors Who Would Have Been A Better Doctor Who

5. Carey Mulligan

While Mulligan's career may be best known to many for her starring roles in big name films like Public Enemies, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, The Great Gatsby and her starring role in Suffragette, it is another role that Doctor Who fans will know her for. That of course is her lead role as Sally Sparrow in Blink, perhaps the greatest Who episode of all time.

Mulligan's popularity amongst Who fans and the public in general would have sent the hype to extraordinary levels, while her versatility as an actor would make her ideal for the role. The other exciting aspect of having Mulligan on board as the Doctor would be the tie in to the plot thread of Blink. I mean who else's face would the Doctor want to take than the one female character who displayed all the Time Lord's attributes?(well, apart from the first entry on our list.)

The biggest issue with acquiring Mulligan would be her high pay demands on top of the time required for the role. He inability to undertake the numerous film and stage roles she has undertaken would have been a difficult issue to overcome. But when there is someone as talented as Mulligan out there, sometimes a big pay packet and flexibility in shooting schedules is well worth the while.

With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
