10 Freaks That Inspired The New American Horror Story

6. Prince Randian The Living Torso

In some clips and teasers we€™ve seen a man who appears to be missing some limbs which could mean he is afflicted by tetra-amelia syndrome, an extremely rare congenital disorder characterized by the absence of all four limbs. Accordingly, this disorder also affects the face, skull, reproductive organs and anus. Randian, whose birthdate and name are unknown, was born in Demerara, British Guiana. He was Hindu and a polyglot who was incredibly self-sufficient. He could shave, paint and write. He was also known for being a talented carpenter. Puts that unfinished project in your basement into perspective, doesn€™t it? His act would consist of him wrapping himself in a one-piece garment that made him appear similar to a caterpillar or a snake and move around in an undulating fashion. Commonly called €œThe Human Caterpillar,€ Randian would do a 45-year stint at Coney Island. He also appeared in the film Freaks, in which he demonstrates his talent for rolling cigarettes using his lips. He eventually used those lips to sweet talk a woman called Princess Sarah into marrying him, and they had several children together. He died in his home in New Jersey in 1934.
