10 Genuinely Heart-Wrenching Doctor Who Quotes

4. The End Of Time, Part One

It was the end of an almighty era in the aptly titled End of Time two-parter and it's safe to say that the Tenth Doctor was finding it just as hard to accept his imminent regeneration as the rest of us. After having his untimely demise foreshadowed by the ominous 'four knocks' prophecy in Planet of the Dead, David Tennant's incarnation of TV's favourite Time Lord had been doing everything in his power to avoid his inevitable fate. Luckily he had the ever loveable Wilfred Mott to help guide him through his final journey, but Donna Noble's grandfather really should've just stayed at home because he actually ended up being indirectly responsible for the one thing the Tenth Doctor was trying so hard to run away from. Bah humbug. Still, David's swansong adventure at the helm of the TARDIS was full of bittersweet moments, including this poignant exchange between him and his temporary companion in which he discusses his unavoidable destiny. Two old men, sat in a café, talking about death. Isn't Christmas supposed to be the happiest time of the year?! Evidently not.
