10 Great TV Shows Starring The Doctor Who Cast
6. Peter Capaldi - The Musketeers
"One for all, and all for one!"
The Three Musketeers is a long-lasting tale that has given way to countless interpretations. Some have been great, and some, not so great. But, this BBC series did its best to provide a fresh take on the classic.
The show followed the typical format of the story, introducing the iconic central figures and showing as they used their swords to protect France and their King. However, this was a gritty and severe version of the literary classic, giving audiences plenty of adventure but a dramatic edge that made it feel unique.
Capaldi was about as far removed from The Doctor here as possible, as he played the show's first major villain, Cardinal Richelieu. In this role, he used his intimidating presence, powerful voice and angsty eyebrows to full effect, delivering on a captivating and entertaining baddie. He was even fitted with some excellent speeches that let him give his all to the part.
Ironically, Doctor Who was the show that stripped him away from this series, as he departed in season one after being cast as the Twelfth Doctor. Still, it was fun while it lasted.
