8. Sokka's Fight With Piandao - Sokka's Master
Everyone in team Avatar has a defined role, it's what makes their dynamic so fun and consistent. And in that dynamic, Sokka is both the comic relief as well as the crazy idea guy. If there's a way to defeat the bad guy that's somewhat unorthodox, then Sokka is the one who will figure it out before anyone else.
But every tactician needs discipline and focus in order to be effective, which is why Sokka sought out the greatest swordsman in the world, Master Piandao, to teach him swordplay.
But of course Piandao is still a member of the Fire Nation, so when Sokka - out of respect for his master - tells him the truth, Piandao challenges him to a duel. And the fight that ensues is one of the absolute best fight scenes in a series FAMOUS for great fight scenes.
What makes the fight work is its brilliant use of scene geography. From Sokka constantly trying to gain the high ground, to trying to blind Piandao by chopping down bamboo thickets in his face, the fight displays Sokka's new skill with the sword, as well as how it brilliantly mixes with his ingenuity and tactical genius.
