10 Greatest Disney Channel Original Movies

Smart House is probably one of the most original productions that Disney ever made.

There is this family with a single father, a dreamy teenage son, and a bratty little sister, who are randomly selected to move into a new smart house that has state of the art appliances and a pretty sophisticated AI considering that this movie came out when AOL was still top dog in terms of internet providers. At first, the AI is, shockingly, very much like a computer.

But then the teenager decides that he wants to soften it up a little bit and gives it a maternal edge by overloading its circuits with 1950s television shows about mothers and housewives. Which turns Pat (yes the AI has a name) into an overbearing mother figure who goes crazy and locks the whole family in the house indefinitely so it can protect them from the dangers of the outside world.

Oh yeah, and the AI is played by Katey Sagal. By all possible metrics this one is a winner, and a more memorable DCOM than most. Also, despite the homicidal computer, we all still definitely wanted to live in that house.
