2. Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas
A true Christmas classic, and one that has now become traditional Holiday viewing for this writer. Abed's uncontrollable Christmas is the jolliest story of a complete mental breakdown that you will ever see.
Abed is suddenly seeing everything in claymation, and decides it must be time to find the true meaning of Christmas. The group seek the help of Professor Ian Duncan (played by the brilliant John Oliver) to get to the root of Abed's trouble, and possibly find his way into a few reputable journals for his efforts.
What follows is a perilous journey through Planet Christmas (or the study room) as Abed lays down some cold Wonka style judgment to his companions. This is another episode that acknowledges Abed has problems, and addresses the damage that can sometimes do (as much as a comedy can anyway) instead of simply using Abed's social disabilities to mine the same jokes week in week out, (like knocking on a door and saying someone's name over and over again every episode, until presumably the last syllable of recorded time).
Anyway, everything about this episode just feels like a genuine Christmas special. Whether it's the festive feel good songs (such as the unforgettable "Sad Slow Christmas Song") or the accuracy with which they copied the animation style of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It absolutely feels like the kind of programme you could drift off too after a little too much turkey and alcohol... just with the study group tossed in for good measure.
