10 Greatest Minor Scrubs Characters

1. Hooch

Scrubs Ben Sullivan
NBC

Played By – Phill Lewis, Appearances – 5 (My Boss’s Free Haircut, My Faith In Humanity, My Changing Ways, My Growing Pains, My Finale)

Many of Scrub’s supporting characters have gag names, including the aforementioned Dr. Beardface and Snoop Dogg Intern. Phill Lewis’ Hooch originated as such, being somebody for J.D and Turk to torment through uses of his name in conversation and pairing him up with Jim Hanks’ Dr. Turner for film reference related amusement.

Hooch’s effectiveness was greatly enhanced by how his sanity slips with every appearance, snapping after repeated needless calling of his name. His comedy is enhanced by the nonchalant attitude that his co-workers hold towards these increasingly psychotic episodes. From threatening to mow people down in his SUV (with some speed metal on 5.1 surround sound no less) and cut off fingers to actually physically assaulting people who try to enter an elevator and implying that he will murder those that follow him into the bathroom, everything is brushed off because ‘Hooch is crazy’.

It was a testament to Hooch’s impact and popularity that he was the last of the many individuals to appear in J.D’s final fantasy in My Finale, appearing in a straitjacket to inform the world that true to all of the joking statements made about his state of mind, Hooch is indeed crazy. He’d later be namedropped in Cougar Town, but didn’t make a physical appearance.
