10 Greatest Ship Reveals In Star Trek

Did these Star Trek moments punch you in the gut as hard as they did for us?

Pulling off the perfect reveal can be a challenge for anyone. Just ask your nearest magician - if you get it wrong, the whole act falls apart. That's what makes the entries on this list so impressive - these are ten examples of absolutely nailing the payoff.

This is a list that is already crying for a sequel, so don't fret if your favourite isn't here, there will almost certainly be a sequel revealed in the near future.

Sorry about that.

There is already a list of the 10 Greatest Ship Entrances In Star Trek - so make sure to check that one out too!

Whether it's starships de-cloaking off the starboard bow, or asteroids floating through space containing a surprise inside, there are so many examples of ships revealing themselves in the most awesome ways. There's Starfleet, Klingon, Romulans, and even snowglobes on this list - all of which stop the presses when they burst onto the screen, ready to shower us all in their gorgeous, gorgeous looks.

And please, don't judge this writer too harshly for some of the frankly troubling things he feels when he sees these ships. He's in a program for it, and he's well aware. Now, let's dive in.

10. USS Defiant - The Search, Part 1

Deep Space Nine's third season opens with the great reveal of the USS Defiant, Starfleet's new, and at the time only, warship. The second season had closed with the destruction of the USS Odyssey by the Jem'hadar, so the need to beef up security suddenly became a lot more important.

Commander Sisko had been stationed at Utopia Planitia prior to taking up his post on the station, and in his time there, had been a part of the design team on the Defiant. It was intended to fight the Borg, though the Dominion threat bumped up its launch date.

The scene is brilliant - the main crew on the station are in Ops, waiting for Sisko to return. What they don't expect is a burst of tachyons right beside the docking ring, nor a ship to de-cloak so close. They are even more confused by the reveal that this ship is of Starfleet origin, using a Romulan cloaking device, loaned under the provisor that Starfleet share all intel gathered on the Dominion with them.

It's a great scene, and a bold start to the new year.
