6. Cristina & Burke Greys Anatomy
Whatever the controversy surrounding Isaiah Washingtons departure from Greys Anatomy in 2007, leaving Dr Cristina Yang at the altar was one of the shows most heart-wrenching moments. Realising he was marrying Cristina for the wrong reasons, Burke left her and Seattle. Cristina returned to their home to find him gone with any meaningful objects his grandmothers picture, his trumpet, his lucky scrub cap and his Eugene Foote collection. Understandably, Cristina is devastated, as were we. Of all the TV storylines about being left at the altar (Stella & Ted in How I Met Your Mother, Carrie & Big in Sex and the City and Barry & Rachel in Friends all spring to mind), this is the one that will stick in audiences minds for years to come. The way it affected the show has been shown in Cristinas character development and a fantastic performance by Sandra Oh has made her one of the shows most beloved characters. It truly is a shame that shell be leaving Greys Anatomy after Season 10.
