10 Hidden Gem Horror TV Shows You Need To Watch
4. Channel Zero
A somewhat overlooked Syfy gem, anthology horror Channel Zero sought to break the typical horror trope mould by choosing a distinctly new and modern source material for its narrative:
Creepypastas.
For the uninitiated, these are established urban online legends, often created by undetermined authors, which tell tales of horrors commonly influenced by current internet culture that blend the lines of fiction and reality.
With each season based on a different creepypasta, the show delivered some seriously sinister concepts during its four season run, capitalising wholly on the beauty of the anthology format. It also boasted an esteemed cast, with the likes of Fiona Shaw leading the first installment, and saw positive reviews from critics and viewers alike.
Despite this, it seems many dismissed the show when it aired, perhaps with the impression that it would be Slender Man-esque fare unappealing to the serious horror crowd.
Thankfully, this is undoubtedly not the case, and while Channel Zero was cancelled after its fourth season, horror streamer Shudder quickly scooped up every season for those of us who missed it.
