10 Insane TV Twists That Ruined Their Shows

8. How I Met Your Mother

Unlike the ending of divisive hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, you probably saw this entry coming.

Debuting in 2005, How I Met Your Mother was initially a breath of fresh air in the post-Friends sitcom landscape. With an ambitious conceit (the show is narrated by its protagonist in the future, regaling his children with the titular tale), the show used clever narrative tricks to create inventive and memorable instalments such as The Pineapple Incident and No Tomorrows.

Add in a superb cast and all the show needed to do in order to take a place in classic sitcom history was provide its protagonist with the eponymous bride-to-be.

Or, you know, introduce said mother only to kill her off almost immediately afterwards and pair the protagonist with a former love interest he already proved deeply incompatible with.

Sure, that works too. Why not?
