5. Crying For Morty
Quite a simple one here, but considering how emotionally repressed Rick usually is, this outward display of his feelings reveals a lot about who he really is. With nobody around to see it (nobody who would care, anyway), Rick sheds a tear as Evil Rick forces him to watch video footage of his Morty.
The fact Evil Rick taunts him for it, combined with the differences in status of Ricks and Mortys in episodes like The Ricklantis Mixup, suggests that this Rick’s feelings towards his Morty might just be the exception, not the rule. There’s always been something special about Rick C 137, and this just might be it.
It’s different from the rest here in that no one particularly benefits from this. It’s not an act of kindness in the sense of him doing something good for people, or protecting his loved ones. Nothing inherently changes as a result of Rick crying.
However, it reveals to the audience exactly the type of person Rick is, and reveals that he’s got a kind heart locked deep inside, even if we very rarely see that influencing his decisions.
