10 Laziest Star Trek Alien Designs

Encounter At Farpoint is a strange episode. As a pilot for The Next Generation, it certainly shows some of the beauty shots of Andrew Probert's Enterprise-D design on full display, and the theme of rescuing aliens that we, as humanity, may not understand is admirable. The inclusion of Q was a late in the day addition, and certainly helps the pacing.

The same cannot be said for the Bandi. While their role as jailers makes them a little thin in terms of exploration, having them appear as drab, grey, somewhat shady people certainly doesn't endear the audience to them. Groppler Zorn's torture by the space-faring creature is almost a welcome respite from the whining he employs for the rest of the episode.

There's just so little to help these aliens stand out. From the clothes, to the makeup, to the old city that sits beside Farpoint Station, the Bandi scream old and worn-out. This is perhaps something that may not have been the best to introduce the new series with. However, the Paramount executives loved the episode and everything therein when it was screened for them before general release.

I may end up borrowing some Bandi gear for my next job interview.
