10 Majorly Hyped TV Series That Disappointed Us

2. True Detective - Season 2

The first season of True Detective seemed to come out of nowhere but became huge. Its focus on gritty crime, a compelling narrative and the effortless chemistry between Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson made it an inspiring - if stomach-turning - delight. So, when it came time for a second season, with an entirely new cast and story, fans were eager to see what would happen.

True Detective season two's build-up was strong if a little hesitant. The attachment of names like Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Vince Vaughn were good but not as influential as the previous stars. Still, if the story and writing matched its predecessor, things would be great. Did that happen? Well, it wouldn't be here if it did.

This season of TV was bloated and entirely self-indulgent, which caused it to feel dull and predictable. Although the performances were strong, and the action sequences got your heart pumping at times, it was all glued together with a threadbare plot and lack of coherency, thanks to the multiple, interweaving investigation storylines.

Luckily, the third season would at least capture more of the show's original magic, even if it wasn't the whole spell.
