10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Batman Beyond
4. Damian Wayne Trained Terry McGinnis In The Comics
Because Batman Beyond was an instant hit, DC Comics released a six-issue limited series the same year. After the series sold well, the company made an official comic series of Batman Beyond, which has been relaunched many times. For years, these stories took place in the DC Animated Universe, so this version of Batman never interacted with the main DC continuity.
Terry McGinnis didn't officially appear in the DCU until Batman #700 in 2010. In this story, Bruce Wayne has seemingly died, forcing his son, Damian, to take on the mantle of Batman. When he learns that a villain called 2-Face-2 has kidnapped a young boy called Terry McGinnis, Damian tracks him to his lair.
2-Face-2 has infected Terry and the citizens of Gotham with a Joker Monster Toxin, turning them into Jokerised lunatics. Damian manages to defeat 2-Face-2 and inoculates Terry before the toxin causes permanent damage.
As Damian grows old, he is forced to retire, allowing Terry to become the new protector of Gotham. Damian takes the role of Terry's mentor, just like how Bruce Wayne did in the Batman Beyond show.
Side-note: with the advent of the New 52 and DC Rebirth, this story is no longer canon. However, a new Batman Beyond series set after the events of Future's End IS canon, and has featured both Tim Drake and McGinnis in the title role.
