In one of the most unexpected but intriguing storylines of the show, Jedi Master Plo Koon happened upon the lost lightsaber of the late Jedi Sifo-Dyas, whose fate for years had been mostly unresolved.

Hoping to figure out what exactly happened to their old ally, Anakin and Obi-Wan were sent to dig into Sifo-Dyas' final moments, knowing already that he had commissioned the creation of the Clone Army, but not yet privy to the deeper secrets of its origins.

After clashing with the villainous Pike Syndicate and Count Dooku, who was on their trail making sure they didn't uncover too much, Anakin and Obi-Wan learned that it was Dooku who made Sifo-Dyas seek out the Kaminoans to make the army, and that the Jedi's greatest villain wasn't the main power in the Sith.

The Council decided to stay vigilant knowing that Dooku orchestrated the Clone Wars, but rather frustratingly didn't look any further into what Dooku had planned. Given the effects of Order 66, that seems like one of the Council's biggest blunders.
