Renée Elise Goldsberry is a renowned theatre and musical theatre performer who originated the role of Angelica Schuyler in Lin-Manuel Miranda's smash hit Hamilton. That part won her a Tony and took her to the White House! On screen, to name but a few, Goldsberry has starred in Altered Carbon, Girls5evaShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Miranda's feature film version of Tick, Tick… Boom!

To be on this list, Goldsberry was, of course, in Star Trek. She played crewman first class J. Kelly in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode Vox Sola. 'Voice,' Goldsberry most definitely has, though sadly no singing was required. That might have lightened the mood for Kelly and co., trapped in the Cargo Bay by the strangest of stowaway symbiotic lifeforms.

Two decades later, the Trek role still resonated for the Hamilton star. In memory of Nichelle Nichols after her passing in 2022, Goldsberry posted an image of Uhura next to one of Crewman Kelly to Instagram, noting the following:

Nichelle Nichols paved the way for so many of us as Uhura […] During my very short appearance as Ensign [sic] Kelly on Star Trek and especially as Quellcrist Falconer on Altered Carbon, I understood the power of my presence in those intergalactic spaces because I had felt hers when I was a child.

Crewman Kelly wasn't Goldsberry's first foray into the franchise either. About a year prior to Vox Sola, Goldsberry had appeared in the video game Star Trek: Away Team as the voice of Lieutenant Matrina Sedik, a 24th century engineer aboard the USS Incursion.

Jack Kiely is a writer with a PhD in French and almost certainly an unhealthy obsession with Star Trek.
