10 More Great TV Shows Cancelled After Just One Season

2. Rubicon (2010)

My So-Called Life
AMC

Inspired by conspiracy films of the 1970s, Rubicon was an American thriller that ran on AMC in 2010. The show was centered around an intelligence analyst in New York City who falls into the realisation that he’s working alongside members of a secret society that are manipulating major world events. Following on from narrowly missing a meeting at the World Trade Centre during 9/11 Will Travers begins to notice strange coincidences and finds himself, an innocent party, embroiled in the network of a society that wants to profit off tragedies. Around it’s release, Rubicon was compared to Mad Men and Breaking Bad for its interesting and unique story, and received mainly positive reviews.

The show had a rocky production, with writer James Horwitch leaving after directing the pilot and then legendary producer Henry Bromell coming in later and making changes to characterisation. AMC promoted the hell out of Rubicon before it’s release but unfortunately largely left it on the backburner after. The show was great yet possibly too slow to find a large audience, it’s a shame as it may have found it’s people had it been released now onto Amazon Prime or Netflix.
