10 Most Anticipated Horror TV Shows Of 2026

As far as iconic slasher films go, Friday the 13th is up there with the best, and even to this day, though there hasn't been anything released even close to as good as the original from 1980, it is still an incredibly popular franchise, with Jason Voorhees boasting one of the great genre legacies.

Bizarrely, there hasn't been a Friday the 13th movie released since the poorly received reboot in 2009, but 2026 will see the franchise return on the small screen in what may reinvigorate the story like never before.

The original of course told the story of Pamela Voorhees' (Betsy Palmer) revenge on the counsellors of Crystal Lake for what happened to her son Jason. Those actual events have never been fully explored before, something that will change with A24's Crystal Lake TV series.

This is arguably more exciting than trying to tell new stories about a character who has already been killed and resurrected, who has gone to space, and who has fought Freddy Krueger in an ill-fated and belated crossover.

Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees could be an exceptional piece of casting, and the reports of Adrienne King, who played Alice Hardy in the original, returning after a real-life stalker forced the decision to kill her off, are more than welcome.
