10 Most Emotional Avatar The Last Airbender Moments
3. Zuko and Iroh Reunite
Avatar is a series of journeys, some physical and some emotional. Although the physical adventure of taking Aang around the world to master every element is the drive of the show, the best transition has to be that of Zuko fighting against his past and discovering his destiny for himself.
The relationship between Zuko and his uncle Iroh is a cornerstone for the show, and thus seeing the emotional journey pay off between the two brought a tear to many eyes.
When finally arriving at his uncle's tent after betraying him, Zuko begins to apologise, but Iroh grabs him and pulls him in for a hug.
This moment speaks to us for many reasons, not merely down to character development. It finally displays the figure of parental affection Zuko has been searching for. The whole show has been spent with him trying to find the Avatar to gain his father's respect and love. He thought he needed a trophy to receive parental affection, but here we see that it was discovering his true path that got him the love he craved.
Zuko apologises instantly, and seeks redemption from Iroh, mirroring his former hope to regain his honour from his father. But this time the response of love he receives is unconditional, and he didn't earn it by fighting, but by becoming the person he wanted to be.
