This paused moment is special as it creates a fun Easter egg between two beloved shows: Rick and Morty and Gravity Falls.
The co-creator and voice of Rick and Morty is good friends in real life with the creator of Gravity Falls, Alex Hirsch. Justin Roiland himself has even appeared on the latter show as a voice actor.
The two share several winks and nods towards each other, usually a small Easter egg here and there. However, the biggest mind-blowing moment comes from Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind.
While the episode is already rammed with paused moments, another occurs when Rick and Morty attempt to escape custody. The two use Rick's portal gun to create several false passages to confuse their pursuers.
Through one of the portals, viewers can see a unique mug and a notebook. These same items fell through a portal in Gravity Falls when Gruncle Stan dropped them.
