10 Most Pointless American Horror Story Characters
1. Kyle Spencer (Coven)
Is there any better representation of a pointless character than dear old Kyle? Starting the season as a happy-go-lucky college boy, Kyle is quicky killed off when his party bus flips over. He is then Frankenstein-ed back together by the Coven witches using the body parts of old classmates. Seeing his former friends now literally attached to him is traumatic for him and haunting for viewers.
Unfortunately, from then on, Kyle is just a character in search of a story. He’s unable to talk for a while but then he does, so that goes nowhere. He has hulk strength as a Franken-Kyle, but that goes nowhere.
He finds himself in a polyamorous relationship with the witches Zoe and Madison, and that goes nowhere. Then by the end of the season he takes on the role of the Coven’s butler/guard dog and embraces what he’s really done all season, lingering in the background while the more interesting characters take center stage.
Kyle Spencer was in Coven for one reason only: to give Evan Peters something to do. This was an extremely female-centric entry in American Horror Story. There’s nothing wrong with that, it just left our American Horror Story staple Evan Peters without much of a purpose.
