As mentioned previously, the Energy Beam of the Ori warships was unmatched in the cosmos. That is, of course, until the Asgard developed their own Plasma Beam weapon. The Asgard were one of the oldest races in the universe, and their technology was superior to just about every other species.

Granted, this wasn't true when the Ori first made their way into the Milky Way galaxy, as their previous energy beam weaponry was insufficient in taking on the new threat. While they were dealing with their own issues, they managed to create a brand new weapon system, and it was a match for the Ori.

The Asgardian Plasma Beam weapon was capable of penetrating the shields of the Ori ships, and those shields were otherwise impossible to cut through. This made the weapon the most advanced ship-based weapon in the known universe, and the humans didn't waste any time using it.

The weapon's power is adjustable, as demonstrated in the Atlantis episode, "Search and Rescue." By altering the power output, the Daedalus was able to disable a Wraith cruiser without destroying it, as a full-power shot would certainly have done.
