10 Most Ridiculously Convoluted Plans By Doctor Who Villains

Doctor Who villains' plans are like Judd Apatow movies: entertaining, yes, but overlong and in dire need of editing.

Of course, the villains have to lose. That is fundamentally why they favour labyrinthine complexity over Gordian-Knot-cutting simplicity, because it gives the good guys more opportunities to save the day. Of course, in story terms, they usually have some character fault that stops them from going for the simple option. Can you imagine how successful Voldemort would be if he simply stopped being racist? Doctor Who is no exception to this type of storytelling, thanks in no small part to its cackling pantheon of total helmets. Many of them have spent their evenings making complicated flow charts anticipating the good Doctor's every move down to the last detail, and many of them are apparently the products of ruthlessly logical minds. This just goes to show that logic makes bad television, for even though some of these schemes look like total bobbins when written down, it doesn't alter the fact that they're damn good fun to watch unfold. These are the best laid plans of Kraals and Cybermen.
