10 Most Surprising TV Cancellations Of 2020
9. Stumptown
The loss of this show was rather upsetting, but what made it worse was the fact that ABC had already announced it's renewal. Fans had their hopes pretty high upon hearing this news, and thus it made the eventual cancellation reveal all the more heart-breaking.
Stumptown was a crime drama starring Cobie Smulders and Jake Johnson. It told the story of Dex Parios, a former marine who took up a job in private investigation whilst caring for her brother who has Down syndrome.
It may not have been the most original concept, but the show's leading performances were strong, and it had a tonne of intrigue. A chance to keep going could have ironed out some of the kinks and produced a delightful property, but sadly that seems unlikely to happen now.
Unfortunately, despite the second season's announcement, ABC chose to cancel the series due to production delays resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. The company had deadlines to meet, and the delays disrupted this.
There is hope that the show may be shopped around and picked up elsewhere, but tragically for fans, there are no guarantees thanks to the infancy of the series.
