10 Netflix Original Shows Cancelled After One Season

6. The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance

Gypsy 2017
The Jim Henson Company

The Dark Crystal's cancellation is an inexplicable one even by Netflix's standards. Featuring an all-star cast, fantastic visuals, awe-inspiring puppeteer work and a great story, the show seemed poised to run for years before its shocking axe.

A prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson fantasy flick Dark Crystal, the show was met with widespread critical acclaim, noted for its excellent fan service and the inspired work of its cast, which included the likes of Mark Hamill, Nathalie Emmanuel, Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Andy Samberg amongst many, many others.

The main speculation doing the rounds about the show's cancellation is to do with the cost, since Netflix tend to measure a show's value based on how many viewers it achieves versus the price tag attached to production.

Looking at the show's expansive world-building and effects, it's fair to say the show was deemed too expensive to keep running, though this doesn't feel entirely fair considering it had just won an Emmy and scored so highly with critics.
